Most problems people bring to us about TikTok ads do not start with the ad itself. They start on day one, with a rushed TikTok Ads Manager account setup: someone opened an ad account from a phone, picked the wrong time zone, attached a personal card that later failed, and skipped the pixel. Weeks later the account is stuck in review, payments keep bouncing, or nobody can tell which sales came from TikTok.
A clean setup takes about an hour of focused work, plus a day or two of waiting for reviews. This guide walks through each step in the order we follow for businesses in Bangladesh, explains which settings you cannot change later, and lists the mistakes that cause the most trouble.
If you are still deciding whether to advertise from a business or personal TikTok profile, read our comparison of a TikTok business account vs personal account first.
What to prepare before you start
Gather these things before opening any signup page. It stops you filling forms with guesses you later have to live with.
- A business email address that the company controls, such as a Gmail created only for the business or an address on your own domain. Avoid an employee's personal email.
- Your business details exactly as they appear on your trade license or other registration document: legal name, address and contact number.
- Your website or landing page, working on mobile, with a clear contact method, a return policy if you sell products, and no broken pages. If you do not have one yet, a simple e-commerce website or landing page should come first.
- A payment card that works for foreign online payments. In Bangladesh this usually means a dual-currency or international card with an active dollar limit from your bank.
- The TikTok profile you want ads to appear from, if you plan to run Spark Ads using your organic posts.
Step 1: Create your login, then Business Center
Go to TikTok for Business and sign up with the business email, not with a phone number or by logging in through an existing personal TikTok account. The email becomes the main key to the account. If it belongs to a staff member who leaves, recovering access can take weeks.
Use a strong password, turn on two-step verification, and write down who in the company owns this login. For a small online shop with two or three people, one owner login plus separate member access for the person running ads is enough.
Next, set up Business Center before any ad account. TikTok Business Center is the umbrella that holds your ad accounts, pixels, catalogues and TikTok profiles. You can run ads without it, but we recommend creating it first, because it separates ownership from day-to-day work.
With Business Center in place, the business owns the assets and simply gives access to staff or an agency. If you change marketers, you remove their access and keep everything: the pixel history, audiences and past campaign data. Without it, those assets often sit inside whichever account created them.
Inside Business Center, set up these basics:
- Add your business name and details to match your registration documents.
- Invite team members by email and give each the lowest role they need. A person who only makes reports does not need admin rights.
- Link your TikTok profile so it can be used for Spark Ads without sharing the profile password.
- If an agency will manage ads, give them access as a partner instead of sending them your login.
Step 2: Create the ad account and choose settings carefully
When you create an ad account, TikTok asks for a few settings that are permanent or very hard to change.
| Setting | What we usually choose | Can you change it later? |
|---|---|---|
| Country or region | Bangladesh, matching your business registration | No |
| Time zone | Bangladesh time (GMT+6) so reports match your working day | No |
| Currency | Usually USD, since most international cards are billed in dollars | No |
| Business name and industry | Your legal name and the closest real industry | Limited, may need review |
| Payment type | Automatic (card) or manual (prepay), based on what TikTok offers you | Usually fixed for that account |
The time zone matters more than it looks. If an account is set to a US time zone, your daily budget resets in the middle of the Bangladesh afternoon, and reports for a given day will not match your order list. Fixing this means opening a new ad account and losing the history.
For currency, check which options appear and which currency your card is billed in. A mismatch is a common reason for payment failures in the first week.
Step 3: Add a payment method that will not fail
TikTok normally offers automatic payment, where your card is charged as you spend, or manual payment, where you add funds first and ads stop when the balance runs out. Which option you see depends on your account and region.
For businesses in Bangladesh, payment is where most setups stall. A few practical points from our experience:
- Activate the dollar limit first. Many cards are issued with international transactions switched off or with a small limit. Ask your bank to enable online international payments and confirm the yearly or monthly limit.
- Expect extra charges. Banks may add VAT and conversion fees on top of the ad spend. A budget of USD 300 can cost noticeably more in BDT once these are added, so ask your bank before you plan the month.
- Keep a buffer. If your card limit is close to your planned spend, a single failed charge can pause every campaign at once.
- Avoid borrowed cards. Using a friend's or relative's card whose name does not match the business is a frequent trigger for payment reviews.
If you cannot get a working card, some businesses run ads through an agency account. That can work, but make sure the TikTok profile, pixel and Business Center still belong to you.
Step 4: Pass the account review and business verification
New ad accounts go through a review. Often it finishes within a day, but it can take longer if details are missing or do not match. TikTok may also ask for business verification, where you upload a document such as a trade license.
To get through review smoothly:
- Make sure the business name on the account matches the document exactly, including spelling.
- Use a website that loads properly, shows real products or services, and has contact details and policy pages.
- Do not create several ad accounts at once while the first one is still under review.
- Read the TikTok advertising policy guide before your first ad. Restricted categories, such as health claims or weight-loss products, get extra scrutiny.
If an account is rejected, the message usually points to the reason. Fix that one thing and appeal through the help options in Ads Manager rather than opening a new account straight away, which can look like an attempt to get around the decision.
Step 5: Install the TikTok pixel and set up events
The pixel is a small piece of code on your website that reports actions back to TikTok, such as viewing a product, adding to cart, starting checkout or completing a purchase. Without it, TikTok can only optimise for clicks and views, and you will struggle to know which ads actually sold anything.
A sensible order for most shops and service businesses:
- Create the pixel inside Business Center or Events Manager so the business owns it.
- Install it on every page. WordPress and Shopify stores can use an official plugin or integration. Custom sites need the code added to the main template.
- Set up the events that matter for you: ViewContent, AddToCart, InitiateCheckout and CompletePayment for a shop, or a form submit or contact event for a service business.
- Test with the pixel helper tool and place a small test order or form entry to confirm the events fire once, not twice.
If many of your orders are cash on delivery or confirmed by phone, the purchase event on the website may not match real sales. In that case, track the order-placed step on the site and compare it with your own delivered-order records each week. Larger stores can also add the Events API, which sends events from your server and fills gaps the browser pixel misses.

Common TikTok Ads Manager account setup mistakes
These are the issues we see again and again when businesses ask us to take over an existing account:
- Ad account opened from a personal phone login. When that person leaves, the business loses access.
- Wrong time zone or currency. Reports never match, and the only fix is a new account.
- Boosting posts from the app instead of using Ads Manager. Promote is fine for a quick test, but it gives little control over audience, placement and tracking.
- No pixel, or a pixel on only some pages. The campaign learns from incomplete data and you cannot judge results.
- Multiple ad accounts for the same business created after a rejection. This can lead to all of them being restricted.
- Landing page that does not match the ad. An ad showing a specific product at a price, linking to a homepage with neither, often gets rejected or performs poorly.
Before your first campaign
Once the account is approved and the pixel is working, your TikTok Ads Manager account setup is done. Run through a short check before you spend money. Confirm the payment method shows as active, the pixel shows recent activity, the TikTok profile is linked, and team members have the right access.
TikTok sets minimum budgets at campaign and ad group level, and these can change, so check the current amounts inside Ads Manager when you build the campaign. For a realistic picture of monthly spend for a small business, see our guide on TikTok advertising cost per month. Start with one campaign, one clear goal and two or three creatives, then give it a week before judging. If you lack good vertical videos, our video ad editing service can turn raw phone footage into short ads that fit TikTok.
FAQ
Can I open a TikTok ad account without a trade license?
You can usually create an account, but if TikTok asks for business verification you will need a document that proves the business exists. Sole traders often use a trade license. Without verification, some features or higher spending may be limited.
Should I set the account currency to BDT or USD?
Choose a currency that your payment card can actually be charged in and that TikTok offers for your account. Many advertisers in Bangladesh choose USD because their international card is billed in dollars. Whatever you pick cannot be changed later.
How long does the account review take?
Often less than a day, sometimes a few days if details are missing or documents are unclear. Matching business names, a working website and a valid payment method help the review go faster.
Can an agency run ads without owning my account?
Yes. Create Business Center yourself, then add the agency as a partner with the access it needs. You keep ownership of the pixel, audiences and profile, and can remove their access at any time.
