Google Ads vs Meta Ads: Which Is More Profitable for Your Business?

Nexteio 8 min read

If you have a fixed monthly ad budget, the question comes up fast: should it go to Google, or to Facebook and Instagram? Many businesses in Bangladesh split money between both without a clear reason, then decide after a month that one platform “doesn't work”.

Google Ads vs Meta Ads is not a contest with one winner. Each platform reaches people in a different state of mind, and the right choice depends on what you sell, how people look for it, and how you close sales. This guide explains how each one works, compares costs and strengths, and gives a practical way to split a small budget.

The core difference: searching vs scrolling

On Google, your ad appears when someone types a search. They already want something: “laptop servicing near me”, “IELTS coaching fee”, “ERP software for garments”. You are answering a need that exists right now.

On Meta (Facebook, Instagram and Messenger), your ad appears while people scroll their feed, watch Reels or check messages. Most of them were not looking for your product a minute ago. Your ad has to catch attention and create interest from nothing.

That one difference shapes everything else: the type of ad you make, the page you send people to, what each click costs, and how many clicks it takes to make a sale.

How Google Ads works for a business in Bangladesh

You choose keywords, write text ads, set a budget, and pay mainly when someone clicks. Your position on the page depends on your bid and on Quality Score, which looks at expected click-through rate, how relevant the ad is to the search, and the quality of your landing page. A well-built ad can beat a higher bidder.

Google Ads is strongest when people actively search for what you offer. Home and appliance repair, clinics, study abroad consultancies, tutors, software, wholesale suppliers and many B2B services fit well. Buyers in these areas usually go to Google when the need comes up.

Its limit is search volume. If very few people search for your product, perhaps because it is new or because people do not know it exists, there is little for your ad to show against. Clicks also tend to cost more than on Meta, since every advertiser is competing for the same high-intent searches. If you want search ads set up with proper keywords and tracking from day one, our Google Ads service handles that.

How Meta Ads works for a business in Bangladesh

On Meta you choose an audience by location, age, interests and behaviour, or let Meta's system find people based on who responds to your ads. You pay mostly for impressions, so a creative that people stop and watch brings cheaper results than one they scroll past.

Meta is very strong for products people buy on impulse or after seeing them: clothing, cosmetics, home decor, food, gadgets and gifts. A large part of online selling in Bangladesh happens through Facebook pages, with orders taken in Messenger and paid by cash on delivery or bKash. Message campaigns fit that way of selling very well.

The weak points are lower buyer intent and creative fatigue. Many people who message will ask the price and disappear, and the same video or image often stops performing after a few weeks. You need a steady supply of new creatives and fast replies in the inbox. Short product videos cut for Reels and feeds, like the ones our video ad editing service produces, help keep campaigns fresh, and our Facebook ads service covers the campaign setup and audience testing.

Which is more profitable for your type of business

Local services and urgent needs

Plumbers, AC technicians, clinics, car repair and similar services usually do better on Google. People search when they need help, often on their phone, and want to call straight away. Meta can still help with offers and reminders, but Google tends to bring the leads that close.

Online shops and f-commerce

For fashion, beauty, accessories and home products, Meta usually comes first. People discover these items while scrolling, not by searching. Once a brand is known, Google Search and Shopping can capture people who search for the brand or for a specific product.

Education and training

Coaching centres, language courses and study abroad firms often need both. Google catches people searching for a course or a country, while Meta reaches students and parents in the right areas with admission dates and offers.

B2B and software

Buyers of ERP software, garment accessories or IT services usually research on Google. Meta works more as support, showing case examples or demo videos to people who already visited your website.

New products nobody searches for yet

If people do not know a product exists, they cannot search for it. Meta video ads that show the problem and the solution are usually the only practical way to build demand at the start.

Profit matters more than cost per click

Meta clicks and messages are usually cheaper, so it is easy to assume Meta is more profitable. That is often wrong. What matters is how much you spend to get one paying customer, compared with the profit from that customer.

Here is a hypothetical example for an online shop selling a product at BDT 2,500, with about BDT 900 profit per order after product and delivery costs:

  • Meta: BDT 20,000 spent brings 400 messages. 50 people order, and 40 accept delivery. Cost per delivered order: BDT 500.
  • Google: BDT 20,000 spent brings 800 clicks. 30 people order, and 27 accept delivery. Cost per delivered order: about BDT 740.

In this example Meta wins, and both channels are profitable. Change the product to a BDT 40,000 service that buyers search for before calling, and the result often flips. That is why you should run this calculation for your own business instead of copying someone else's split. Count delivered orders or closed deals, not order requests or messages, especially with cash on delivery.

Tracking both platforms without fooling yourself

Both platforms will often take credit for the same sale. Google counts conversions within a set window after a click, commonly up to 30 days. Meta, by default, counts conversions within 7 days of a click or 1 day of someone viewing an ad. A buyer who saw your Reel, searched your name on Google and then ordered may show up in both reports.

Keep a simple monthly sheet alongside the platform reports:

  • Total ad spend across both platforms
  • Total delivered orders or signed clients from all sources
  • Total spend divided by total customers, which gives your real cost per customer
  • Answers to “where did you hear about us?” from the order form or first call

Set up tracking properly on both sides. On Meta, the Pixel together with the Conversions API gives more complete data than the Pixel alone. Our guide to Meta Ads conversion tracking covers the setup.

How to split a small budget between the two

If you are just starting, put most of the budget on the platform that fits how your buyers behave, and test the other with a smaller share. These are rough starting points, not rules:

  • Local services: about 70–80% Google, the rest on Meta for offers and retargeting
  • Fashion, beauty and lifestyle shops: about 70–80% Meta, the rest on Google for brand and product searches
  • Education and training: close to an even split, adjusted after a month of data
  • B2B and software: mostly Google, with a small Meta budget for retargeting website visitors

Run the split for at least four to six weeks, then move money towards whichever platform brings customers at a lower real cost. Raise budgets gradually, perhaps 15–20% at a time, so each platform's delivery system has time to adjust.

Common mistakes when choosing between them

  • Using the same ad on both: a text-heavy search message rarely works as a Facebook creative, and the reverse is also true
  • Judging Meta only by last-click reports, which often miss sales it started
  • Running Google with broad keywords and no negative keyword list
  • Comparing cost per message with cost per click as if they mean the same thing
  • Replying to Messenger or WhatsApp leads slowly, then blaming the platform
  • Doubling the budget after one good weekend

FAQ: Google Ads vs Meta Ads

Which is cheaper, Google Ads or Meta Ads?

Meta usually costs less per click or per message. Google clicks cost more but often come from people closer to buying. Which platform is cheaper per customer depends on your product, your offer and how well you follow up.

Can a small business run both at the same time?

Yes, but avoid spreading a very small budget too thin. If your total budget is small, start with the platform that suits your buyers, get it working, and then add the other.

Do Meta ads help Google Ads results?

Often, yes. People who see your brand on Facebook or Instagram may later search for your name on Google. That usually shows up as more brand searches, which are cheap to capture with a small brand campaign.

Why do Google and Meta report different numbers for the same sales?

They use different attribution windows, and both count sales they influenced. Compare total spend with total real customers in your own records to see the true picture.

Need help deciding where your ad budget should go?

The best answer to Google Ads vs Meta Ads comes from your own numbers: start with the platform that matches how your customers buy, track real sales, and adjust every month. Nexteio's ads campaign service sets up tracking on both platforms, runs a test split, and moves budget towards whichever one brings customers at a lower real cost. Share your product, budget and goals on the start a project page and we will suggest a starting plan.
